Since the Middle East possesses 40 percent of world’s gas reserves and Europe depends on gas imports… we encourage neighboring countries and world companies to build routes for transportation of energy resources via Syria. It will positively affect country’s economy on the whole and improve the supply of energy within Syria,” Ghanem said.
The minister noted that the work on projects related to gas and oil transportation suspended over civil war would be resumed. Russia establishing permanent presence at its Syrian bases: minister of defense
NBCNEWS – December 30, 2017: Russia has begun establishing a permanent presence at two military bases in Syria, the country’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said Tuesday.
During a conference call with the leadership of the country’s armed forces, Shoigu said President Vladimir Putin had approved the structure and staff at Russia’s main bases in Syria’s Tartus and Khmeimim.
“We have started to form a permanent presence there,” according to an official tweet quoting Shoigu, whose comments came as parliament ratified a deal with Damascus cementing the Russian presence in Syria. Link: Read Complete Article

Russia will continue assisting Syria in sovereignty protection
TASS – December 31, 2017: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin assured the Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad that Russia will continue assisting Syria in protection of the country’s sovereignty, unity and territory integrity, the Kremlin said.
“In his message of greetings to the President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad, the President of Russia expressed hope that in 2018 the situation in Syria would continue changing for the better,” the Kremlin said. “Mr Putin noted that defeating terrorists and rapidly bringing the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic back to normal would be in the best interests of the whole world and would improve security in the Middle East.”
“In addition, Mr Putin confirmed Russia’s commitment to assisting the Syrian Arab Republic in upholding its state sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and promoting a political settlement and economic recovery,” the Kremlin added.

US helicopters evacuate IS commanders from Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
TASS – December 31, 2017: US helicopters evacuated Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) commanders from several districts of the Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria on Wednesday, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported citing information received from local residents.
According to SANA, US helicopters evacuated the IS commanders from the Deir ez-Zor province to Al-Hasakah province in northeastern Syria. According to the agency’s sources, this is the second time the US evacuates IS terrorists.
Earlier in the week, the Syrian government sent a message to the United Nations, accusing the US-led coalition of making deals with the Islamic State and coordinating its actions with the terror group.
On November 14, BBC reported that the US-led coalition and its Syria allies had stroke a deal allowing around 250 IS militants and about 3,500 members of their families leave the city of Raqqa in October. Russia has no evidence to prove the involvement of the US-led coalition in the militants’ evacuation from Raqqa but this issue should be looked into, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said commenting on the BBC report on November 16.
