USA TODAY – June 26, 2018: The beginning of America’s bloody Civil War is generally remembered as the opening shot on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861. And Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, fears another Fort Sumter is in the near future for America.
“America is heading in the direction of another Harpers Ferry,” the controversial conservative tweeted Sunday. “After that comes Ft. Sumter.”
King’s tweet linked to an article from the conservative online news site PJ Media about a group of protesters who were staging an “occupy”-style campout in front of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement holding facility in Portland, Ore.
Political emotions have been running high in recent weeks after a massive public outcry against the administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy when it resulted in the systematic separation of migrant families, said the article.
And Rep. Steve King’s concern that the U.S. could be heading for another violent, internal conflict has been echoed by many voices in recent days after two administration officials were driven from restaurants because of opposition to their political views.
And Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, calling on activists to ramp up harassment on people inside Trump’s adminstration has further fueled concern that civility in American politics is further eroding.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER – June 26, 2018: Facing a new wave of potentially dangerous threats, called for by a top Democratic lawmaker, legal and gun experts are calling on top Trump aides to get their concealed carry permit and back it up with a pistol.
“There are simply not enough police in D.C. or Virginia or Maryland to protect all Trump officials at their homes and when they go out to restaurants. Getting a concealed handgun permit would be helpful to protect themselves and their family,” said John R. Lott Jr., president of the influential Crime Prevention Research Center.
“High level officials in the Trump administration, especially if their faces are likely to be recognized by many in the public as a result of appearances on TV, might want to consider applying for a license to carry a concealed weapon in the District of Columbia, and/or other states they frequent, in view of the call by Rep. Maxine Waters for the public to ‘absolutely harass’ these officials in public places, and other recent events indicating the increased danger they are in,” added public interest law professor John Banzhaf.

USA TODAY – June 29, 2018: The other day, author Tom Ricks asked whether we’re heading toward a civil war. “I don’t believe we’re to Kansas of the 1850s yet. But we seem to be lurching … in that direction,” he wrote.
Ricks was commenting on “What Democratic rage would look like,” a Bloomberg opinion column that quotes political scientist Thomas Schaller as saying, “I think we’re at the beginning of a soft civil war. … I don’t know if the country gets out of it whole.”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kirstjen Nielsen experiences at restaurants suggest a ‘soft’ civil war is well underway. It will get worse unless we learn to stop hating each other.
The civil war is already starting
Well, actually this sort of thing seems to be well underway. Hollywood has basically turned its products, and its award shows, into showcases for “the resistance.” Americans are already sorting themselves into communities that are predominantly red or blue. ‘Consider Expelling Her’: Judicial Watch Files Ethics Complaint Against Maxine Waters
FOX NEWS – July 5, 2018: Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said his organization filed an ethics complaint with the House of Representatives seeking reprimand against Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.).
Fitton said Waters used her stature as a member of Congress to incite harassment and potentially cause violence against Trump administration officials.
He said the top House ethics rule is to act in a way that “reflects credibly on the House at all times,” adding that Waters’ recent public call to tell political opponents “they’re not welcome” at a store or service station does not adhere to that rule.

The California Democrat canceled two scheduled appearances in Alabama and Texas this weekend after saying she got threatening messages and “hostile mail” at her office, including “one very serious death threat” on Monday from an individual in Texas.
As the President has continued to lie and falsely claim that I encouraged people to assault his supporters, while also offering a veiled threat that I should ‘be careful’, even more individuals are leaving (threatening) messages and sending hostile mail to my office,” she said in a statement.

31% Think U.S. Civil War Likely Soon
RASMUSSEN REPORTS – June 27, 2018: Most voters fear that political violence is coming from opponents of the president’s policies, just as they did in the second year of Barack Obama’s presidency, and nearly one-in-three think a civil war is next.
Thirty-one percent (31%) of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years, with 11% who say it’s Very Likely. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% consider a second civil war unlikely, but that includes only 29% who say it’s Not At All Likely. Democrats (37%) are more fearful than Republicans (32%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (26%) that a second civil war is at hand.
But 59% of all voters are concerned that those opposed to President Trump’s policies will resort to violence, with 33% who are Very Concerned. This compares to 53% and 28% respectively in the spring of Obama’s second year in office. Thirty-seven percent (37%) don’t share that concern, including 16% who are Not At All Concerned.
