‘Why does Israel get impunity?’ UNSC call for protection of Palestinians vetoed by US
RT – June 2, 2018: The United States has vetoed a Kuwaiti proposal to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC), which sought to offer “international protection” to Palestinian civilians in the wake of more than 120 of deaths in the Gaza strip.
In a speech to the council, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley criticized the proposal, describing it as a “grossly one-sided view”. Haley accused Hamas of inciting violent acts at the border between Gaza and Israel, purposefully infiltrating the ‘Great March of Return’ mass protests with its “terrorist fighters” and deliberately using civilians as human shields.
“The terrorist group Hamas bears primary responsibility for the awful living conditions in Gaza,” she said, before the UNSC vote.

Israel Denies Hamas Claims of Ceasefire Amid Largest Spike in Tensions in Years
SPUTNIK NEWS – May 30, 2018: This latest exchange of missile launching between Israel and Hamas has been the largest since 2014. And Hamas’s deputy chief in Gaza Khalil al-Hayya said that “a number of mediators intervened in the past hours and an agreement was reached to return to a ceasefire in Gaza.” However, Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz denied ceasefire claims by Hamas. And that “Israel does not want the situation to deteriorate, but those who started the violence must stop it,” said Katz.
According to the IDF Home Front Command, in last 22 hours (from May 29), sirens were triggered at least 166 times in southern Israel. They stressed that “If the launches are renewed, the attacks against Hamas will be intensified,” said the official, quoted by the Times of Israel.

Prince William’s Visit to Palestine May Help to Solve Recognition Issue
SPUTNIK NEWS – May 30, 2018: The forthcoming visit of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, to Palestinian territories many are hoping will help the two parties build a more comprehensive relationship that will move things a step closer to resolve Palestine’s recognition issue, said Palestinian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Manuel Hassassian to Sputnik.
“It is hoped that this historic and very symbolic visit will help build stronger relations and become a stepping stone towards resolving the issue of recognition and may bring the UK closer to acknowledging the wrong done to the Palestinian people by the Balfour Declaration, because of which, they still suffer today,” Hassassian said.
The announcement of Prince William’s planned visit is due to begin on June 24 to Palestinian territories and is seen as part of a broader plan for the Middle East peace process. He also plans to visit Israel and Jordan.
